Pumpkin House 2013

Here is the Pumpkin House in West Virginia during the C-K Autumn Fest. All sources consistently report 3,000 carved pumpkins at this free event.

Scroll for some behind-the-scenes photos here, too!

We arrived just before dusk and before the big crowd.

Here we are watching pumpkins light up to music, ala Christmas lights set to music.

This says "Welcome to the 2013 Pumpkin House and C-K Autumn Fest."

The lone, traditional Jack-O-Lantern is safe behind the picture window in the house, looking out.

Let's zoom in on one of those pumpkins......hmmmmmmmmmmm? Many with current social commentary.

Several religious pumpkins. Three with Jesus that I could see. Even depicting Jesus with a crown of thorns and one depicts Jesus carrying his cross.

The wires (look to the right) behind lighted-pumpkins show.

More Halloween Fun in West Virginia

Had to snap a picture of this house decked out for Halloween in West Virginia. The upper windows are decorated from the inside, too...with a mannequin even!

I really dig the ghost bride/flower girl mannequin in the yard. And there's a Headless Horseman on the porch. There are even real people sitting on the porch! Such frights!

The decorators here remember all the details. Heavy usage of black lights on the porches. I'm thinking of putting in a black light for the next coupla days. Spooky!

Oh, and one house had homemade tombstones in the yard, with clever names such as Colin Sick. Heh. Clever, they are here in West VA!

Our Porch

Look for the one with the little pirate flag. Turns out to be *nothing* compared to the Halloween decorations around here!

These fantastic Halloween decorations at a house nearby are no match for the little pirate flag. This house is just a sample of the spooktacular (yes, yes....I just did that) Halloween fun to be had here!

Jolly Pirate Donuts....not a joke

No Joke, Folks!

Two of my favorites in one?!?!? This is serious and good and not a joke! Makes up for lack of Dunkin'.

Read all about Jolly Pirate Donuts and their Greek menu here and here and here.

Now, off for a chest o' donuts, not a mere bag. Argh. (Truly, a for-real baker's dozen of 13 is put in a box that looks like a treasure chest.)

Pumpkin Festival

Enjoyed the Pumpkin Festival. Good place to see what the people of West Virginia are really like.

Turns out people are more similar than different everywhere we go. As the WV DMV worker said, "Fat and jolly!" DOH!

Here we are representing train safety, Phila, and the Phillie Phanatic in a sea of Marshall U and West VA U fans.

Interstate Move from PA to West Virginia

In the past, whenever I would see a Mayflower moving truck on the interstate, I wondered what it must be like to make an interstate move with enough belongings to require a semi-truck. My dream came true (as you might say) when a crew packed up a Mayflower truck with all our belongings on September 30, 2013.

A yellow sticker was placed on everything, for inventory. We'll be removing these for months to come!

Loading the truck.

The last night spent in Penna.

Welcome to Wild, Wonderful West Virginia!

The truck arrives in WV.

It's official!
